The point is that the check he gave her was indeed fake, but the hotel wouldn't have realized it, so she would have gotten the $1,400 anyway.
Frank Abignale was full of shit as many have said. However, where he might have failed as an adventurous conman, he definitely succeeded as a storyteller.
