There's nothing wrong with trees. Those are bio-luminescent algae and when they're put into a concentration like that, they produce a lot more air and take in way more carbon than a single tree, typically between 10-60 times more depending on the style.
A solution to a problem that does not yet exist. 1: If your city is so packed, that it is literally impossible to find a space to plant trees, you failed at city planning, and your city has become Mega City One from judge dredd. 2: There is no mention of the costs and maintenance
They neee constant water supply, rootin in the ground and if too small, the, need to be brougjt inside for wintertime. Also, they have no leaves during winter, which prevents photosynthesis. Algae won't cause hayfever. In contrast: algae won't spend much shadow and cool the tempe
