Only works if there is no resistance (or equal pressure) on the other side. If he didn't ruffle up that bag first and it was a typical pressed bag, the resistance of the two sides stuck together would prevent this.

The bernoulli effect will only work if air is also sucked into the room from somewhere. If not, it will cause an under pressure which may even negate the airflow generated by the ventilator itself.
