Restoring History: The Tiger 131 Tank in Motion

This video features the Tiger 131, a famous World War II-era German tank, being operated at the Bovington Tank Museum. The footage shows the tank exiting a storage facility and moving across the museum grounds. The Tiger 131 is widely recognized as the only running Tiger I tank in the world, preserved as a historical artifact. The clip captures the mechanical process of starting the vehicle and its movement, highlighting the engineering involved in maintaining such a rare piece of military history for public display and educational purposes.

It's cool to see but the Panzer IV was a better tank. But they only built 8500 or so of them. Verses the 50k Shermans America built and the almost 60k T34's the Russians built.

what's really amazing is the starter flywheel they're spinning up isn't as heavy as most think it weighs in at around 5kg or 11 pounds but, with gearing, is spun as high as 14,000 rpm the kinetic energy to start the big V12 is generated by extreme speed instead of raw mass

Imagine the terror of hiding in a hole or amongst some rubble and hear that thing crawling towards you.

Wars suck but the things we build to fight them with are sometimes just awesome as all hell.
