This Week in Science: Quantum Computing Milestones and New Health Discoveries - Interesting on Aviaclip

This summary highlights recent scientific breakthroughs, including an IBM quantum computer completing a complex task in 19 seconds that would take a traditional supercomputer over a century. Other notable findings include the discovery that five specific infections were linked to 12% of new cancer cases in 2024, and evidence from a newly discovered feathered dinosaur in China suggesting flight evolved multiple times. Additionally, research indicates that creatine may boost strength and lean mass even without exercise, while daily low-dose aspirin shows a potential link to reduced dementia risk in specific genetic groups. The update also covers the identification of a unique type I superconductor capable of generating its own magnetism.

I thought the aspirin one was already a thing?

A quantum computer can solve tasks that noone ever asked for. If you can sort a card deck in less than 10 seconds... don't get me wrong... that's incredible. You are still useless when it comes to playing cards with friends where you need to shuffle the cards.

Wouldn't it be nice to know what those infections are?

The creatine isn't lean mass. It is just water in the muscle. You can trick those scanes by being on a strict low carb diet for a while and then just eat a bunch before the scan. Your muscles would fill up with glycogen and you would be bigger.

We already knew that flight evolved more than once. Birds, bats, and insects are AT LEAST three separate times (insects are probably many times).

"Daily low-dose aspirin has been linked to lower dementia" NO SHIT SHERLOCK, THE ONES WITH DEMENTIA FORGOT TO TAKE IT

when you learn you have ass cancer and try to think back how that could have happened..." High-risk strains of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) insert genes that disable protective proteins, leading to cervical, throat, and anal cancers. Hepatitis B and C can similarly integrate into l

Infections cause cancer? Well thats great. Quantum computers look gorgeous

Flight evolved more than once? As opposed to bats, birds, dinosaurs all evolving from a common ancestral flying insect rather than from land-dwelling relatives?

The more they study creatine, the better it becomes. Seems to be the only supplement that actually delivers measurable results on all of its claims.
