You're only supposed to say bless you, when they say excuse me. As in bless you for asking to be excused Not bless you because you sneezed, bless you for being polite.
Growing up we had a relative who was a nun. It was always awesome to see her, chain smoking swearing coolest person at the party , all in her habit.
