A Humorous Take on the Geometry of Knots and Dimensions

A Humorous Take on the Geometry of Knots and Dimensions - Memes on Aviaclip

This comic illustrates a humorous encounter between a 3D stick figure and a 4D hypercube. While the hypercube attempts to assert its superiority by claiming its existence is unimaginable to a 3D mind, the stick figure is preoccupied with tying a knot in a piece of rope. The joke plays on the mathematical concept that knots, as we understand them, are only possible in three-dimensional space. Because a 4D space provides an extra degree of freedom, a string that appears knotted in 3D could simply be pulled apart or untied by moving it through the fourth dimension, rendering the concept of a 'knot' fundamentally different or impossible in higher-dimensional space.

4th dimension is just 3D space with the time-line. Whatever possible in 3D space will also be possible in 4D space...

Haha it's a bowline

It's confused because they do not have suicide by hanging in the 4th dimension

Other fun fact : At a certain number of dimensions a hypercube starts having more faces than edges.

3d knots only work in 3d I assume you need to fold it into itself somehow to get a 4d knot that would work in 4d space

Hah, I've played 4D Golf so I have full mastery of the four dimensions.

if a 3D object is composed of infite layers of 2D objects, then 4D object must be composed of infite layers of 3D objects, which means 4D dimensions is composed if infite amount of 3D universes, so close to each other but yet each unique, parallel universes.

4th dimension knots called paradoxes.

Relax, cube. It's knot what you think

Okay, now I'm super curious... I get that a knot in 3D space would not hold in 4D, but does that mean there aren't 4D possible knots?!?
