Insanity plea should automatically result in life in prison, even for a shoplifting case. Insanity plea means someone is so insane, that life outside of prison is no longer an option.
The insanity plea is bullshit regardless. I don't and will never care about the mental state of someone who kills someone else. If you intentionally kill anyone, it should be a minimum of life in prison.
Just remember one juror said in an interview that the lone hold out couldn't get past that "Lindsay Clancy viscously murdered her children." Even the ones giving interviews know she killed her kids but said not guilty.
